Join us for an hour with Lysander Venible and The Venible Group, a partnership that helps those who venture into federal or state courts without the help of lawyers.

They will join Chappy on his Zoom call this week. They will be talking about common mistakes and misconceptions when filing Tax Court Petitions or Complaints in other courts.

This will be a discussion of the foundational basics of crafting a sound complaint and avoiding dismissal under FRCP 12.

We will cover topics and answer questions concerning the court's jurisdiction, where it comes from and how it is invoked.

• Myths about Tax Court and IRS jurisdiction.

• The purpose of trials and how to avoid them.

• The importance of knowing the local and procedural rules.

• The importance of knowing the difference between statements of law and statements of fact.

• The mistake of choosing "small case" procedures in the U.S. Tax Court.
